If the headset does not work in ANY applications that uses audio input/output, test the headset on another computer. Some headset models may require specific software for UC/Jabber integration. If it is compatible, check to see if there are any software and/or drivers that need to be installed for that specific headset model and install it. Check the headset manufacturer's website to make sure it is compatible with the Operating System you are using (some even will specify if it is UC and/or Cisco Jabber compatible). 
Test headset in other sound and/or microphone enabled applications or in the computer Operating System's sound settings.
